I came across these beautiful orchids while walking in the Kanangra-Boyd National Park. They were little points of colour and new life emerging after the devastating fires swept through and destroyed so much in the summer of 2020.

Xanthorrhoea sp, Grass Trees ‘After the Fires’, a series of miniature paintings of plants growing in Blackheath.

After the Black Summer bushfires of 2019-2020 swept through the Blue Mountains I saw that the grass trees in bushland around my home were starting to reshoot in the burnt areas before almost anything else.  So I embarked on a series of miniatures focusing on resilience, regeneration and the beautiful sculptural quality of these amazing plants.
